On a recent Thursday afternoon, a car carrying several passengers allegedly tried to pass the tractor-trailer on the road. The 26-year-old driver was carrying several passengers at the time of the accident, including a 1-year-old boy. As the driver maneuvered his way in the intended lane-change, he apparently lost control of his steering.
The car crossed over the tractor-trailer's lane and continued off the shoulder of the road. It then rammed into a nearby guardrail and came back out onto the truck's lane. Authorities say it appears the truck tried to avoid the crash by swerving. The attempt was not successful as the car then struck the massive truck, which sent it sailing across both northbound lanes of traffic. The truck wound up flipped over on its side.
Both lanes of traffic were shut down for approximately four hours after the accident. The 63-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was injured, as were several others. One person had to be airlifted to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment. The driver of the car was charged with drug possession and driving under a revoked license. These types of trucking accidents often lead to personal injury claims in Tennessee civil court; anyone currently considering filing such a claim can obtain assistance by discussing the situation with an experienced personal injury attorney.
